Initial Research Pathway (Dyson AM09 Bladeless Fan)




I wanted to research consumer-grade products with good engineering features and functions to talk about. I considered vacuum cleaners, fans, and washing machines. After using Google Search and AI tools, we decided to go with the Dyson AM09 Bladeless Fan, impressed by its features and functions.

  • Found multiple websites such as Dyson US, TechRadar, and The Guardian talking about the Dyson AM09
  • Give prompts to perplexity.ai such as "Compare the performance of the Dyson AM09 fans to other fans" and "What are some engineering features and functions behind the Dyson AM09 Bladeless Fan?" to get the relevant sources and information about the fan

Interpretation of Quote by Marybeth Miceli

“I contend that we (engineers) are undervalued because of our widespread inability to explain what we do to the general public (and why it is so important). It is one of the hardest goals to accomplish, to be able to boil down difficult concepts into a short and easily understood presentation or elevator pitch.” Marybeth Miceli, President, Miceli Infrastructure Consulting, USA (2011) This quote highlights the importance of communication for engineers when trying to bring across ideas to others from non-engineering backgrounds.  The quote resonates with me, especially the part where "to boil down difficult concepts". For engineers, most of our topics and concepts involve complex theories and terminologies and this usually requires some form of background knowledge to understand . Project Contribution

My contributions to the project: I used Google Scholar, Google Search, YouTube, and  AI tools like ChatGPT to briefly research the idea for our team's project. I helped with the writing of the problem statement. I watched a YouTube video to find out more about the background of the 737MAX MCAS I contributed to the presentation slides for the introduction, a brief overview of the MCAS and AOA sensors, motivation of the group to improve on the MCAS Writing the content and presenting the slides I contributed to the Executive Summary and Introduction for our team's report.
