The Dyson AM09, also known as the Hot+Cool™ Jet Focus fan heater, is a bladeless fan designed for both hot and cold weather. Its dimensions are 23.43 inches (59.5 cm) in height, 6.02 inches (15.3 cm) in length, 4.45 inches (11.3 cm) in width, and 5.91 lbs (2.68 kg) in weight. The AM09 uses ceramic plates to warm the user and the Air Multiplier™ technology to cool them down (Dyson US, n.d.). The Air Multiplier™ technology lets the fan dispense smooth air 15 times faster, even without spinning parts (Salisbury’s Appliances, 2024). Furthermore, it does not have any exposed heating parts. This means that the fan is safe, as the features mentioned help prevent injuries and accidents (Engel, 2024). The AM09 was awarded a “Quiet Mark” distinction from the Noise Abatement Society as it is quieter than previous models due to the smooth airflow. The fan also offers users 10 strength settings (Gibbs, 2015). Dyson US (n.d.) states that the fan can be adjusted using a remote control, which is curved and magnetised to be stored neatly on the fan. Lastly, it can be switched off with a sleep timer of predetermined intervals, ranging from 15 minutes to 9 hours.

The Dyson AM09 bladeless fan is an innovative product with amazing engineering features that make it high-performance, user-friendly and safe though pricey compared to its competitors.

Firstly, the AM09 is designed to be safe and user-friendly. It has a bladeless design which it is safer than a traditional electric fan due to the lack of spinning parts. The AM09 can blow out hot air without being uncomfortable to touch. Also, it can turn off automatically when it is knocked over (Lynch, 2019). The AM09 also comes with a curved magnetic remote controller, which is easy to use and can be stored on top of the fan (Gibbs, 2015). The AM09 is roughly 60 cm tall, and its compactness means that it can be used as a desk fan or a stand fan (Lynch, 2019). Hence, the AM09 design make it a safe and user-friendly device.

Secondly, the AM09 has good performance.

However, the AM09 is also more expensive than its competitors.

In conclusion, the AM09 is an amazing product regardless of the price tag. The features that it has outweigh its cost.

Interpretation of Quote by Marybeth Miceli

“I contend that we (engineers) are undervalued because of our widespread inability to explain what we do to the general public (and why it is so important). It is one of the hardest goals to accomplish, to be able to boil down difficult concepts into a short and easily understood presentation or elevator pitch.” Marybeth Miceli, President, Miceli Infrastructure Consulting, USA (2011) This quote highlights the importance of communication for engineers when trying to bring across ideas to others from non-engineering backgrounds.  The quote resonates with me, especially the part where "to boil down difficult concepts". For engineers, most of our topics and concepts involve complex theories and terminologies and this usually requires some form of background knowledge to understand .
